Hello everyone,
I have noticed some unpleasant marks on my Ikea Hemnes sideboard, including scratches, dents, and small chips on the corners. Since the piece is made of solid pine wood with a white paint finish, I’m unsure how to best repair these marks discreetly, without causing large-scale damage to the surface or leaving uneven patches afterward.
Does anyone have experience or advice on how to professionally touch up typical signs of wear on HEMNES furniture? Which materials (e.g., paint pens, wood filler, special waxes) would you recommend, and are there any proven techniques to make the repair particularly durable?
I look forward to your suggestions and a practical step-by-step guide.
Thanks and best regards!

Sometimes, when matching color, it works better to apply paint with a small brush rather than a pen, if you can find the right shade.Absolutely! My advice: for small dents or scratches, I usually use wax sticks that you can easily rub in with your finger. It’s not paint, but it seals scratches quite well and lasts for a while. However, it’s not suitable for complete surface refinishing.
And when in doubt: Billy and Malm furniture can take quite a bit of wear, but Hemnes is a bit more sensitive due to the multilayer wood and the surface finish.
So: it’s better to proceed carefully and do the repair step-by-step rather than covering everything all at once.
