Hello everyone, I am planning to remodel my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets into a vintage style and would like to know the best approach. I am especially interested in understanding which steps are necessary to transform the high-gloss, modern surfaces of the Metod units into a charming, rustic vintage look. What materials, techniques, and possibly additional components are most recommended to achieve an authentic appearance without compromising the kitchen’s functionality and stability? Additionally, it would be great if you could share tips on installing vintage-style handles, creating aged-looking surfaces, and choosing suitable colors. I already have some basic knowledge but would appreciate clear, practical recommendations to proceed efficiently and neatly. Thank you in advance!

I agree with the suggestions and would like to add: When doing a vintage remodel, focus on a harmonious color palette with soft, muted tones like pastel mint, warm beige, or delicate gray. This will give the Metod kitchen a charming retro character. And don’t forget—a well-aged look is created not only by color but also by small details such as porcelain knobs or antique-style hinges, even if they are purely decorative. Enjoy your DIY project! 😄

Thanks to everyone for your helpful and detailed responses! I now have a clear plan: first, clean and sand carefully, then apply several coats of chalk paint, lightly sand the edges for a distressed look, and finally seal with a matte or wax finish. I will also add extra decorative moldings and use some porcelain or brass handles. Your assessments of the materials and steps were especially useful. I will report back once I get started!

Great, glad to hear that! Looking forward to your results, and remember: just take it easy, small imperfections are part of the vintage charm 😉 Good luck!
