Hello everyone,
I am currently assembling the Ikea Pax wardrobe at home, and I noticed that the surfaces are finished quite differently (paint, laminate, glass, etc.). Since I want to enjoy the wardrobe for a long time, I’m interested in how to best care for and protect the different Pax surfaces to prevent scratches, dullness, or damage.
Specifically, I would like to know:
- Which cleaning products are recommended or should be avoided?
- How should laminated or painted surfaces be treated?
- What should I keep in mind with the glass elements?
- Are there any special tips to avoid scratches or to repair minor damage?
I value practical and detailed answers, as I’ve already tried a few methods that didn’t work very well.
I would really appreciate if you could share your experiences and tips!

I would add that it also helps to avoid keeping the indoor air too humid. Constant high humidity can eventually cause blistering or peeling on furniture with foil layers. This is a point I have learned myself, for example with our kitchen and also the Pax system: indoor climate is sometimes even more important than cleaning itself. Moisture and temperature fluctuations are often underestimated factors that affect surfaces.
Furthermore, I have had good experiences by generally using fewer liquids and preferring to wipe more frequently but thoroughly with a dry cloth. In the end, the best protection against scratches and discoloration is careful everyday handling, while also maintaining a bit of patience, since minor signs of wear in daily use are hardly avoidable.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips; I find this discussion really valuable!
