Hello everyone, I am specifically looking for ways to optimize space usage in my small apartment using the IKEA BESTÅ system. I am interested not only in storage but also in multifunctionality and aesthetic aspects. I want to find out how to best combine the modules to accommodate books, media devices, and decorations without making the room feel cluttered or less cozy. Additionally, I would appreciate any tips on effectively using different sizes and on the placement of doors or drawers in such a tight space. It would be great if you could share your experiences or practical advice!

By combining closed modules at the bottom with open shelves on top, the whole setup feels airy and less bulky.

That sounds good, although I’m still not sure how best to organize items like the TV, bookcase, and decorations.
Does anyone have suggestions on whether it’s more practical to use the system horizontally as a long lowboard or vertically as a shelving wall? The rooms have ceiling heights of about 2.50 m (8 ft 2 in).

Using it horizontally as a lowboard works great under windows and creates a relaxed look. Expanding it vertically works well if you want storage upwards and use small corners. If a TV is involved, a lowboard with open compartments for devices is the most practical.

I think: both! 😁 Imagine a shallow lowboard with the TV and speakers under the window, and right next to it, a narrow, tall shelf for books and plants. This way, you have everything in view, and it doesn’t feel like a wall of cabinets. Plus, the room feels more open.

Take advantage of the versatility of BESTÅ – for example, doors with glass inserts for media and decoration. Drawers for small items. A small tip: consider power outlets during installation, and always arrange the TV and devices logically to keep cable clutter to a minimum.
