Good morning everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of installing IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in a room with sloped ceilings efficiently and, above all, precisely. The slopes make placement difficult, as you often have to make adjustments to avoid wasting space while ensuring the cabinets remain stable.

My specific questions are:
- What is the best way to measure a sloped ceiling and accurately transfer these measurements to the cabinets?
- What common modifications are made to Metod cabinets to adapt them to sloped ceilings?
- Are there any best practice tips for properly aligning and securing the cabinets so that they remain safe and fully functional despite the slope?

The slope in the room is quite steep, about 40 degrees, and I want to maximize the available storage space. If anyone has experience with cutting, special installation methods, or useful additions (e.g., custom fittings or handles) for Metod furniture in such situations, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

By the way, don’t lose sight of stability – sometimes it’s better to have a smaller gap than a poorly fitting cabinet panel.

That’s an important point, and I’m really trying to keep that in mind. I definitely don’t want the stability to suffer because of the slope.

I’m reasonably skilled with tools and have access to some equipment (miter saw, cordless drill, sander). Still, I want to avoid overly complex drilling or multi-part cuts that might introduce potential errors.

I find your idea of creating open space above the cabinets interesting. That might even make the area feel airier and less cramped. How did you do that? Did you just attach shelves with mitered edges? Or did you use special wall brackets?

Regarding the hanging system: how do you manage the cabinets above the slope? I doubt that standard screws would hold well in a wall sloping at 40 degrees.

Thanks for offering the sketches. It would be great if you could at least share a few tips or tricks in writing.

I understand how stressful this work can be. I had a similar experience with Metod cabinets and sloped ceilings – it often feels like nothing ends up precise enough.

My advice: Take your time and measure multiple times. Make smaller adjustments rather than trying to fix everything at once. Don’t worry about gaps; especially with unusual angles, people often don’t notice them if you decorate cleverly or use trims.

And to Cristiname: Don’t drive yourself crazy—you’re on the right track with the tools you have. If it gets overwhelming, adjustable shelves can be arranged flexibly, which helped me reduce mistakes.

Hang in there, it will turn out well!

Are there standard dimensions or angles to use with these 40-degree roof slopes to cut the Metod cabinets to fit directly?

That’s an interesting question, but unfortunately: no, there are no standard angles. Every room and roof slope is different, so individual adjustments are necessary.

A more radical alternative is to use more flexible furniture or plan the ceiling height variably instead of relying strictly on fixed cabinet units.
