Specifically, I would like to know the best way to reinforce the unit to safely use it as a seating surface, which materials besides the original components are practical, and how to incorporate a comfortable seat without losing the storage function. Does anyone have a step-by-step guide or practical tips on what to consider during the conversion—especially regarding stability, comfort, and appearance? I would appreciate constructive suggestions, including any experiences on how to repurpose the doors or drawers to make the bench multifunctional.

It’s best to use wood-stained panels for appearance and durability. I used a panel 120 cm (47 inches) wide, which matches the width of the BESTÅ units, and about 40–45 cm (16–18 inches) deep for comfortable seating.
You attach it inside on the sides with brackets and also screw it to battens for better stability. You can omit the back panel, as the board carries the load.
For additional support, I recommend installing at least two cross battens toward the rear area to prevent warping.
