Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of optimally installing IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in a very tight space at home. Some of the rooms are so small or awkwardly shaped that setting up the cabinets according to the instructions is possible but not very space-saving or efficient. My question is: What strategies, layout ideas, and tips can you recommend for installing IKEA Metod cabinets in confined areas in the best possible way? I am especially interested in how to position and connect the cabinets so that the space is used optimally and access to the cabinets remains convenient. Are there any special product extensions to consider or installation methods you would advise against? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

Hey suix49, great that you’re approaching this so thoroughly! In my small kitchen, installing corner cabinets with rotating shelves really helped—it maximizes storage without wasting any space! What I also love are these narrow tall cabinets that you can outfit very flexibly with shelves and pull-out drawers. One tip: don’t hesitate to experiment with the best setup, even if it seems a bit tricky at first—it’s definitely worth it! 🙂 Keep us posted on what you decide!

Fix spacer strips more securely instead of gluing them. Use tall cabinets and corner cabinets. Install soft-close doors for tight spaces. Use internal drawers instead of shelves.

My ceiling height is about 2.30 meters (7.5 feet), and it’s a small L-shape with the shorter side only 1.60 m (5.25 feet) wide. The larger area is 2.20 m (7.2 feet) wide. Both sections are approximately 3.60 m (11.8 feet) long.

Oh wow, that sounds really quite compact! Especially with a width of 1.60 m (5.25 feet), you’ll need to watch the depth of the Metod cabinets, as standard depths are usually 60 cm (24 inches), which already takes up a lot of room. My suggestion: see if you can get drawers with a shallower depth; some cabinets can be ordered with depths of 37 or 40 cm (14.5 or 16 inches). That will give you more space to move through. And if you configure the corner with a corner cabinet, I’d bet that using swing doors or pivot hinges could improve accessibility. Still: less is more, so choose only the cabinet types that really fit. And don’t forget about the cabinet heights. 🙂

I believe you can make the most out of every corner, especially in tight spaces! I once upgraded a small kitchen myself. My tip: Use drawers with telescopic slides, so even in narrow areas you can easily pull everything out and keep track of it. Slim cabinets, perfect for storing baking sheets or cutting boards vertically, are real lifesavers in small rooms! Also, don’t forget: lighting inside the cabinets makes a huge difference for usability. Good luck with the setup!
