Hello everyone, I am currently planning to redesign my kitchen a bit and am considering using the Ikea Besta system for additional storage. My kitchen doesn’t have much space for traditional wall cabinets, so I want to integrate Besta units to store pots, pans, and containers in an organized and accessible way.
A key question for me is how to best adapt the Besta modules for kitchen use since they are primarily designed for living areas. I’m looking for ideas on how to make the shelves and cabinets functional, durable, and visually appealing so they don’t look out of place in the kitchen, while still providing storage that meets kitchen requirements.
Are there any experiences with modifying the back panels, doors, or internal fittings? And what about installing them in the kitchen, especially when mounting them on the wall?
I’m really looking forward to tips, suggestions, and practical reports on how to use the Besta system effectively and permanently in the kitchen.

If you screw the modules to the wall, make sure to use suitable wall anchors and a guide rail, otherwise it will be unstable.I would view this point critically: Guide rails can be helpful but must be installed very precisely. In kitchen walls, which sometimes consist of drywall or thinner materials, load-bearing capacity can quickly be limited. Therefore, it is essential to carefully check the wall structure and possibly install additional reinforcement. Also, consider that Besta modules should be supported on the kitchen floor without special anchoring, as excessive weight or frequent use can otherwise cause stability issues.

Also consider free ventilation, especially in the kitchen area, to prevent mold growth. Here I see an important precaution: Humidity in the kitchen can indeed become problematic, so I would recommend using ventilation slots or ventilated panels instead of fully sealed back panels. This way, you ensure that moisture is not trapped and damage is avoided.
