Hello everyone, I am about to assemble my Ikea Platsa cabinet and want to document the entire assembly process as thoroughly as possible. I am especially interested in which techniques or tools you would recommend to capture the process clearly and understandably. The documentation should be helpful for myself in case I make changes later, as well as to possibly show the process to friends or craftsmen. What methods do you use for clean step-by-step documentation? Is a simple journal enough, or do you also take photos and write notes on paper? Or maybe digital tools? I am open to all suggestions, especially tips on how to structure the individual steps effectively.

Photos should always be taken from the same perspective to ensure comparability. This is a very important point. Consistent perspectives make it easy to immediately recognize, even after weeks or months, which screw goes where.
One additional tip from me: I use Excel sheets to list all the work steps in chronological order, including photos as links and notes. This way, I have a digital log that I can easily search through.
As mentioned before, I would also always note the number of screws used, since IKEA sometimes provides extra parts – this way, you can immediately see if something is left over or missing.

Don’t be too hard on yourself; the main thing is that you end up with a clear picture of your work – and have fun doing it!You’ve put it perfectly. I often tend to want to document everything perfectly and in great detail, which can become quite exhausting in the end. Your suggestions really show me that it’s also useful to stay flexible, to keep motivated, and not get lost in the details.
I will combine the tips about numbering, photos from fixed angles, and brief daily summaries. I also like the idea of adding comments and evaluations; that will definitely add some color to the documentation. Thank you all for the helpful and practical advice!
