The time has finally come. The decision is right at our doorstep. We have two options: a great house in the big city or a great house 30 km (about 19 miles) away, in a smaller town. Our gut feeling is leaning toward the big city, but then I wouldn’t have as much time for my family since I would be away more often because of work. If we choose the equally nice house in the smaller town, I would have excellent working hours with my current job, but we wouldn’t feel as comfortable there.

Should we listen to reason or follow our gut feeling? 😕

Well, I think it’s difficult for an outsider to really judge that or offer helpful advice. Each person can only decide for themselves. The question is whether you plan to keep working near the small town for a long time (around 10 years) or if you will eventually move to the city for work anyway.

Generally speaking, I would rather commute than buy a house just because of a shorter commute to a place where I don’t feel very comfortable...
