Wolverine2 Jan 2012 21:42Hello,
I would like to install a granite window sill in front of my 2.3m (7.5 ft) wide window. The window is set 3cm (1.2 inches) deeper than the wall.
I would like to use a 16cm (6.3 inches) wide granite sill. Are there brackets that I can fix into the masonry to simply support the sill?
Using angle brackets probably wouldn’t look very good since the vertical part would always be visible. As you can tell, I don’t have a radiator recess.
Thank you very much for your advice.

Hello!
I can think of several options – but either they are too unstable (you never know if Mom might lean on it too hard while cleaning the windows 😀) or rather complicated.
The simplest solution would be to highlight things that are hard to conceal. For example, instead of an angle bracket, use a bracket support; these come in various designs, such as metal brackets with a diagonal brace.
Best regards,

Okay, the simplest visually appealing option would be shelf brackets for glass shelves (short metal rod with an even shorter threaded end); not very load-bearing due to leverage.
The second option would be a custom-made solution: a solid metal rod with approximately 10 cm (4 inches) of external threading.
Heavy-duty anchors and similar fasteners make little sense because the overlap is too limited.
Less visible would be a flat steel bar welded to a threaded rod or screw.
The only less visible option after that would be a Siemens ceiling hook 😀!
