Greetings, fellow enthusiasts,
My name is Jean-Marc, I am 35 years old and live near Kassel. I work as a human resources officer at a bank in Kassel. After five years of fruitless searching for a suitable pre-owned property, countless viewings, and just as many disappointments, my wife and I have decided to build our own home next year. Professional commitments, limited DIY skills, and a lack of personal contacts in the contractor community had kept us from doing this until now. :-( However, since the real estate market is a complete disaster here as well, in what used to be a border zone area, we feel forced to engage with the topic after all. We have already had discussions with our financing advisor and house suppliers, and plan to purchase the plot next year… so far it is just a field, and the local residents are still protesting against what is planned – and hopefully will happen.
I still can’t quite imagine how it will all work out… maybe that’s normal!?
Looking forward to exchanging opinions and gaining lots of new insights.
Cheers!

We actually know many of the people who are now opposing our housing development; they are not strangers. The petition list is publicly accessible on openpetition. Situations like this really reveal the true character of your fellow citizens, not just a superficial impression. Very unfortunate. We briefly considered building elsewhere where we would feel more comfortable, but we are going ahead with it now and hope that the controversy will settle down over time.
The fortunate ones should be glad that a new housing development is securing their nearest Aldi location. When they have to hobble there with a walker, this will become really important for them. There are fools...

Greetings from the south of the country and a friendly hello!
It’s really unfortunate when others oppose and call for protests. Especially some older people (and I’m starting to count myself among them 😀) are sometimes so dissatisfied with their own lives that they simply don’t want others to succeed and respond with pure hostility. I think it’s great that you’re going through with it! Hats off to you! I wish you much success and that the others just keep quiet 😀 I would be happy to hear about and see your project!

Yes, it’s hard to believe how suddenly rare bats, salamanders, and nesting birds are discovered 🙂
It was the same for us... and I could understand the residents because they built at the edge of the area 20 years ago with direct meadows and fields in front of their doors, and now construction is happening right there.
In 20 years, I’ll probably also have to keep an eye out for protected animal species 🙂

During the approval phase of the entire development area, there were also concerns from the existing residents about our new residential district

are partly so dissatisfied with their lives, Strangely, it is often those who are the most dissatisfied—especially those who claim that everything could only improve—who strongly resist any change. Or, as is also commonly seen, they cling to supposedly hated situations because they have become like "an old married couple" with them over time.
However, firstly, you cannot stay thirty forever by begrudging building plots to younger generations; and secondly, choosing to "remain among yourselves" comes at a high price: aging and eventual decline of their community. First, purchasing power fades, then local services disappear. But then, at ninety, you can still crawl into the car and drive to the supermarket in the nearest district town ;-)
