Hello, in our scope of work it says: "The frost skirts will be shuttered and backfilled with gravel alongside the ground floor slab. The assumed soil bearing pressure is 2 kp/cm²." So far, so good. But then there is a statement we don’t understand: "Backfilling around the house/frost skirts must be agreed separately." What should we make of this? What does it mean, and how necessary is such backfilling? THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSES!

Hello, in our construction specification it says: "The frost skirts are formed and backfilled with crushed stone together with the base slab. The assumed soil bearing pressure is 2 kp/cm²." So far, so good. But then there is a statement we don’t understand: "Backfilling around the house/frost skirts must be agreed separately." What should we imagine here, what does it mean, and how useful is such backfilling? THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWERS!This means that the final backfilling around your house is not included in the price and will be charged separately.
It definitely makes sense to have your house level with the surrounding ground 😎
Without backfilling, you would have a small moat all around.
