HilfeHilfe1 Dec 2014 08:54Hello,
we want to raise our lawn area by about 20 cm (8 inches).
What would a truckload of topsoil (around 5 tons) cost in Hesse?
Do we need to pay attention to any specific quality requirements?
Thank you

DerBjoern3 Dec 2014 11:48I don’t know the costs for Hesse right now, but it shouldn’t be a significant expense. I paid about €160 (approximately $170) including delivery per dump truck load (14m³ / 490 cubic feet) from a local contractor.

Well – prices can vary quite a bit.
We paid about 1,800 euros for nearly 100 cubic meters (130 cubic yards) of topsoil – and this was the cheapest offer out of five companies we contacted (the others all quoted prices starting with at least a 2).
Additionally, the material still needs to be spread. After removing 1.5 cubic meters (2 cubic yards) by shovel and wheelbarrow from our five dirt piles (which earned us the nickname "The Dirt Pile Family" in the neighborhood), we spent another 100 euros on our earthworks company. One of the best investments of my life (or at least for my back).

Haha, I know the feeling. I had 83m³ (about 2,930 ft³). I even started spreading it manually in the evening because I simply couldn’t find anyone who could or would do it on short notice (within 2-3 weeks). A neighbor saw me and was totally shocked, telling me to stop. He said he had called someone and that help was on the way. Shortly after, his friend showed up with a tractor, front loader, and rotary harrow. In 60 minutes and for 75€ less, the entire yard was leveled so well that I could have almost sown the lawn right away (thanks to the rotary harrow). I’ve never spent money so effectively before ^^
