Good evening everyone,

we are currently building a house with a prefab company using timber frame construction, and shortly after the material selection, we were informed that we now have to install an arc fault detection device in our house. I had never heard of this before, and it means additional costs of about 4000 euros.

I have already read quite a bit about this in the forum, and the purpose of this device is very much debated. Even my insurance company does not require this device.

The building company tells me that since January 2018 they are obligated to install these protections – but I’m not entirely convinced. Does anyone have a source where I can find exact information on this or is someone familiar with this topic?

Best regards and have a nice evening

Quote from Wikipedia: "The use of residual current devices (RCDs) is not legally mandatory in Germany and is therefore voluntary, because the DIN VDE 0100-420 standard has not yet been incorporated into the regional building regulations as a technical construction requirement."

Why are you starting a new thread for this? The existing one is still active: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/fehlerlichtbogen-schutzschalter-in-fertighaus.25618 – what exactly are you still missing after eight pages, and why don’t you just ask there? I don’t find duplicate threads helpful.
