Hello everyone,

We recently had an initial meeting with a general contractor regarding the construction of a single-family house.
He mentioned that the exterior walls will be built using Poroton T14 (24 cm (10 inches)) plus external insulation. When I asked about using Poroton T9 (36.5 cm (14 inches)) without insulation, he said that the T9 is not as good structurally as the T14. Additionally, if using the T9, it is necessary to apply a reinforcing mesh around the masonry to ensure structural stability.

I am not an expert when it comes to bricks, but based on the thickness (24 cm (10 inches) vs. 36.5 cm (14 inches)), I thought the “thicker” brick would also be better structurally.

Can someone clarify this for me?
Which parameter indicates “good structural performance” for bricks? Bulk density class? Compressive strength class?

Hello andimann, if that is the case, we will probably stick with the T14... Thank you!

Visit the Wienerberger website. They offer very good and informative PDFs for download. A lot is explained in a clear and easy-to-understand way. Not only about Poroton but also general building physics.
