Hello, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask. I have an urgent question. We have been living in our newly built house for six months. We have brick cladding on the exterior, including expansion joints. However, our expansion joints are still not sealed. Is that a problem? What is the purpose of sealing them? Is it just for appearance?
Best regards, Lisa

The expansion joints technically need to be sealed. Otherwise, too much water will penetrate during heavy rain. Is it a big issue? Probably not. However, I would still have it done soon. It can be quickly completed with compressible foam tape. You can also create a PU joint, which might be somewhat more "premium," but about twice as expensive.

Thank you for your response.
If the expansion joints that have not yet been sealed got wet, would there be moisture in the masonry? I’m worried that mold could develop now. I tend to worry a lot.
