ᐅ Electromagnetic Pollution – What Is the Minimum Safe Distance from a 220 kV High-Voltage Power Line?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy a house and recently viewed a property that would actually meet all my requirements—except for the high-voltage power line. It passes only about 20 meters (65 feet) from the house, and that makes me uneasy. Are there any reliable studies on electromagnetic pollution caused by high-voltage power lines? What is the recommended minimum distance between residential buildings and such a power line? Some might consider this "nonsense," but I have two children, and I do not want to expose them to any avoidable risk.

So the high-voltage power line runs just 20 meters (65 feet) from the house? I would never buy a house like that, unless it was at a very good price. That high-voltage line would bother me.

That must be a really good price. No, I wouldn’t want to live that close to a high-voltage power line, no matter the price.

I have also looked into this topic because my brother wants to buy a house, and there is a high-voltage power line about 60 meters (197 feet) away from the house.

There is no clear evidence that such high-voltage power lines emit magnetic fields that can cause health issues.

However, the minimum recommended distance from a cable for high-voltage power lines should be at least 10 meters (33 feet). Of course, this also depends on the sensitivity of the individuals involved. Additionally, this is often a matter of perception, so anyone who feels anxious about it should consider refraining from purchasing the property.
