Hi,

If I have a drywall partition that is only about 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in) wide and 2.75 m (9 ft) high, and I want to install double layers of drywall, can I simply use 2.00 m (6 ft 7 in) drywall panels and offset the second layer horizontally by half a panel? Or is it necessary to have a vertical joint as well? I made a sketch that might make it clearer.

Two floor plan drawings side by side; left without joints, right with vertical joints, double layered.

Both options are possible.

Alright, then I'll install the panels without a vertical joint, which is definitely less work. Thanks 🙂

A vertical joint would only make sense if it allows you to save material. However, given the small surface area, it wouldn't really matter.
