Our general contractor wants us to choose a door from the manufacturer "Obuk." I don’t think the doors are bad; there is exactly one model that we like. The carpenter who installs the doors and windows also has a showroom. It is noticeable that the handles and fittings slightly deform when pulling the door open. Is this normal, something you just have to accept, or do other manufacturers do this better? Does anyone have experience with this manufacturer?
The carpenter also mentioned that for our larger windows (width 2.26m (7 feet 5 inches) in the shell construction) we cannot get single-piece roller shutters—unless they are made of aluminum. He also recommended reconsidering our desired color (anthracite) because the dark color might bring in too much heat into the house. Does this really make such a big difference? Do aluminum shutters have any disadvantages besides the price? For 11 windows, the aluminum shutters cost an additional 2,500 euros.

Hello Knallkörper,
To my knowledge, Obuk does not manufacture front doors but only door panels, which are installed in front doors (aluminum or PVC) like a glass pane. These panels nowadays are often overlaying the sash (on the outside or on both sides). In some front door—actually door panel—models, the handle is mounted directly on the panel. In others, the handle is attached to the sash. I would prefer the second option because pulling on the handle bends the panel more or less each time. Of course, this depends on the panel material, panel thickness, fastening method, etc. It is certainly true that aluminum panels should be more stable than plastic panels.
Regarding the roller shutters: Your carpenter gave good advice. I think it is a good sign that he raised concerns. For this size, the roller shutters should be made of aluminum, especially if the windows might be floor-to-ceiling. Dark-colored exterior components absorb more heat and therefore expand more, which can cause issues. This risk is significantly lower with aluminum roller shutters than with plastic ones. I just installed my aluminum roller shutters and chose silver. But that is a matter of personal taste.
