Hello everyone,
An acquaintance mentioned that a timber frame house creaks when there is stronger wind.
Could this be true? Or is it a construction defect? How does it behave in really strong wind, for example during a storm?
Thanks and best regards,
Herbert

I’m not even going to argue that your acquaintance is wrong—just look at how American wood frame houses creak in a little wind down in Florida... They can even blow away if they’re not properly secured. Hi,
I had irony mode on...
But many of those particle board houses in the US are actually quite a joke. It’s been a few years since I was last “over there,” but the way energy is used defies description. People sit in cars with the engine running and the air conditioning on so that their partner can sit comfortably cool after shopping. Or dozens of buses idling outside tourist spots... Sorry, that’s off topic.
But the thread starter has probably realized by now that houses from the established prefab manufacturers don’t creak—just as solid construction homes don’t either.
Regards...
