Hello,

We have received approval for our building permit / planning permission for an extension. Now, the documents state that a contractor certification is required when installing systems for heat distribution and water supply.

We are skilled in installing and modifying heating pipes and radiators ourselves.

Do I really need to have this done by a company, even though I have done it myself many times before?

I believe the main intention here is to prevent undeclared work. Perhaps you know a certified heating engineer who can inspect the installation and certify that it was done professionally. They cannot forbid you from doing it yourself, but they can require proof that it was done correctly. After all, you can also change the cylinder head gasket on your car yourself if you know how to do it. If you don’t know how and still attempt it, it can lead to a major disaster and engine seizure.
