Hello everyone

We are buying a house and are currently starting to plan the costs a bit.

The guest bathroom is on the ground floor, and the tiled floor will be removed. Therefore, the idea was to retile the guest bathroom at the same time since the floor will be taken out anyway, and we are planning to install a different sink and toilet.

What kind of costs should we expect just for the tiler’s work (floor/walls), including removal and new tiling?

Costs for the fixtures can be calculated relatively easily, and I also think we will be able to do the installation ourselves if everything stays in the same place as it is now.

How much does a bathroom cost?
It depends on the tile format: mosaic tiles are labor-intensive, large-format tiles are also labor-intensive.
Which surfaces do you want to have tiled? If it’s the same as now, it’s cheaper to tile over the existing tiles; if less, the remaining area will need to be replastered.
Labor costs also vary by region. Are you hiring a specialist company or a one-person business?

I would first consider what is actually included in your budget. Usually, the guest bathroom or its renovation is low on the priority list. The house’s essential structure comes first—both in terms of energy efficiency and the flooring in the rest of the house. If you plan to tile several rooms anyway, the cost per room usually comes down as part of the overall project. If you only want to renovate this one room, it will be more expensive.
In my 12 years participating in this forum, I don’t know anyone—not even privately—who has tiled just a single, previously used guest bathroom alone; it’s typically done together with the main bathroom because the cost-to-benefit ratio is unfavorable.
Most people either tile the room themselves, paint over the tiles, or update the sanitary fittings.
Demolition is usually done by the homeowners themselves, if at all, because that work often doesn’t justify the costs.
So, you will have to get two or three quotes from professionals near you if you decide to go ahead, after you’ve taken all the necessary measurements.
