Hello,

I hope someone can provide me with some information about this construction method.

We received a building specification from a developer.
The gable walls in the attic are built with a timber frame structure insulated with 16 cm (6 inches) of mineral wool insulation with a thermal conductivity rating of 0.035.

Outside: larch wood cladding, ceiling boarding as battens and counter battens, and a breathable underlay membrane.

Inside: drywall mounted on rafter boarding with a polyethylene vapor barrier.

It is also possible, upon request, to have the exterior finished with slate cladding, brickwork, or solid masonry (for an additional cost).

What does this mean for someone without technical knowledge?

Thank you very much for your answers and suggestions.

We also requested a catalog, but that was almost six weeks ago. We then gathered unbiased information about timber frame construction from a carpenter we know well.

That’s why I said the quality is the same if the work is done properly.

We requested a quote at the end of last week and are curious whether and to what extent the "starting price" will change.

I can’t say if we will build with this company, as we only really need the shell construction (including the roof structure). No idea if the company offers that.

Best regards

I’m worried that the upper floor will be quite noisy. Feel free to get in touch if you hear anything. Best regards

Hello,

basically, a wall cannot be considered as an individual component. You always have to look at the entire building. (strange, as if I had already written this today, anyway).

I like timber frame construction and have experience with it, but the design with 16cm (6.3 inches) insulation seemed very slim to me. It will probably meet the energy efficiency requirements, but not much more.

You also have to consider that you will never be able to install an electrical outlet in this exterior wall, let alone run any installation cables (keyword: installation layer).

Best regards
