Hello

What is the best way to close a gap between a staircase and a wall?
Issues:
1. The gap is not very small – between 1.5 and 2.5 cm (0.6 and 1 inch)
2. The distance varies

So definitely stuff mineral wool into the gap, and then it depends on the surface covering whether it will cover the gap. I assume it’s a concrete staircase? Please do share some photos and show what you plan to do later.

Yes, sorry – I realized afterward that important information was missing.
So, an interior wooden staircase.
For silicone or acrylic, that would be quite wide, wouldn't it?!

Dark staircase on the left, white baluster, warm diamond-shaped light on the wall to the right.

Modern dark wooden staircase against a gray wall, white stair nosing and warm wall lights.

I would have the stair builder create a thin cover strip in the same design and attach it. This should actually be part of the stair installation anyway.

Yes, trim moldings... the carpenters’ favorite parts...
Best regards
