ᐅ Can a lift-and-slide door be as airtight as a standard door?

We have one lift-and-slide patio door and will soon be getting a second one.
I like them because sliding doors don’t get in the way, they are easy to operate... and even people unfamiliar with the mechanism can quickly figure them out.
But sometimes I wonder if the brush seals can really provide effective insulation 😱
I’ve read that nowadays they are very tightly sealed 🙂
I would be interested in a comparison of the insulation performance of lift-and-slide doors versus “regular” doors.

I have been looking for this information for a while without success... 🙄
Does anyone know a website where I can find information on this?

Triple glazing not for the lift-and-slide doors
We got that without any problems.

Yes, such "comparisons" are often more complicated than you think or want.
But that's what the professionals are for 😎

Let me refresh my question:
Does anyone have a recent comparison of hinged doors and lift-and-slide doors?

Quote:
My favorites are folding sliding doors or even better, outward-opening hinged doors.

Folding doors are technically too complex for me (even more so than lift-and-slide, which I have little confidence in).

Hinged doors are of course much more solid (and a larger opening would have been great), but on one hand, we don’t have space outside (only a window cleaning exit), and on the other hand, the lift-and-slide doors have already been ordered, so for that reason alone, there can be nothing better ... 😉

With the old profile system, we no longer can, but for all other components it was no problem, including for the lift-and-slide elements—not because of the package thickness, but due to the weight. We would have had to redesign the profile. Buying lift-and-slide elements was the easier option than digging up the old designer ;-)

the profile

For my feeling, this is a weak point in our model.
The track is made of aluminum (thankfully without visible dents for the past 2 years). I think it should be made of stainless steel 😎

outward-opening hinged doors
Sorry for the slight off-topic, but a quick question: Are there still manufacturers or suppliers in Germany offering outward-opening hinged doors? Unfortunately, Velfac has withdrawn from the German market. I haven't found any others so far.

In principle, you can simply reverse the elements. The handle hole is drilled from the opposite side, the condensation drainage channels need to be installed differently, and for burglary protection, you’ll have to come up with a suitable solution for the fittings.

No German sales office, no German order forms. But they do export here, and there are presumably staff who understand German. So feel free to have your window supplier inquire with them. Why should it be harder to communicate with a Scandinavian manufacturer than with a Polish or Slovakian one?

Yes, almost every manufacturer can provide those. As I mentioned before, the doors are usually just installed the other way around.
At first, no one wanted to sell me such a door because they supposedly aren’t burglar-resistant. Still, I ended up with one because it fits best and can also be properly locked from the outside.
