Piotr198130 May 2020 22:29Hello everyone,
After thorough viewings and examining samples, we have finally chosen our preferred tile.
We have now been offered this tile at a sensationally low price from an online retailer (a reputable site) and are wondering whether we should buy it now and store it ourselves until the time comes—around 6 months from now.
Should we discuss this in advance with the tiler?
Quantity: approx. 160 square meters (1,722 square feet)
Size: 20 x 120 centimeters (8 x 47 inches)
What do you think? Securing the price by paying a deposit probably won’t be possible, since it’s an online retailer. Looking forward to your feedback.
P.S. Other retailers, including local suppliers, sell the exact same tile for up to three times the price.

You should definitely discuss this with the tiler beforehand, especially regarding the amount to order (waste, baseboards). Also, you need to have somewhere to store them (large-format tiles are heavy, too).
In general, I wonder why the online retailer can offer them so cheaply, while the specialist store charges three times as much. Or is there perhaps a catch?

No catch. Exactly the same tiles. I find it quite bold to obscure tile manufacturers here and charge up to three times the price for them.

I also find the price differences between online stores and local shops quite steep. I often order online at a good price when I specifically search for something (for example, basement tiles without having seen them beforehand). However, I don’t think it’s fair to use the in-store samples and advice, and then buy the tiles online.

Brick-and-mortar stores should partly understand that these markups are no longer justifiable in today’s market. I’m happy to pay “a bit” more, no question about it.

A "funny" story related to this, from three days ago: We sampled "anonymized" tiles, and even when we asked, they wouldn't tell us the manufacturer or the series of these tiles. When the offer was prepared, the employee misread the coding, so the wrong tile was ordered and installed by the tiler. Now everything has to be redone.
