Hello everyone,

We are planning to build a carport with the option to convert it into a wooden garage for our new house. The structure will be approximately 3.90 m (13 feet) wide and about 13.0 m (43 feet) long.

We have some questions regarding the best way to approach this. We cannot fix anything directly to the house since it should stand free but still be positioned right next to the house wall.

On one side of the yard, I have built a garden wall using 17 cm (7 inch) wide shuttering blocks, which are placed on a 35 cm (14 inch) deep foundation. Is it possible to bolt the post anchors onto this wall, or would it be better to install a separate pad foundation in the yard?

On the house side, we have installed frost-protected pad foundations measuring 40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 inches).

My plan is to use glulam posts sized either 12 x 12 cm (5 x 5 inches) or 14 x 14 cm (5.5 x 5.5 inches) for the supporting posts, and 8 x 16 cm (3 x 6.5 inches) glulam beams for the rest of the structure.

Part of the carport will be separated to serve as a storage room. The spaces between the posts will be clad and then plastered in the same color as the house, so that the supporting posts will protrude about 1 cm (0.4 inches).

What would be the recommended wall composition for this, from the outside to the inside?

The roof will possibly be covered with sandwich panels.

The main framework will be built by a carpenter, and I would like to do the rest myself.

Best regards
