Hello,

I’m not sure if this is the right forum for plumbing questions, but I’ll give it a try.

We have a question related to purchasing a house:
We want to add a toilet in the bathroom because currently there is only one downstairs on the ground floor, and we would like one on the same level as the bedrooms.
The bathroom is nicely tiled, and underneath there is a plank floor, probably with some sort of underlay or mat in between. Is it even possible to create a ceiling opening for the waste pipe without having to remove all the tiles in the bathroom due to removing the planks?
Would it be enough to carefully remove a few tiles at the spot (hopefully to put them back later) and then create the ceiling opening through the planks? Or do the planks need to be completely removed at that spot?

Thanks in advance!!!

If I were planning your project, I would work only at specific points. In other words, I would only lift the floorboards where you want to run the soil pipe (HT pipe) through the ceiling. Once the pipe is installed, seal it from below (for example, with an OSB board), then add the screed and a Fermacell board on top, followed by the tiles – and that’s it.
