Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience with the color change of birch parquet and Hevea (rubberwood)? Does birch darken significantly over time? Which wood’s color change is comparable to birch, sugar maple, or Canadian maple? Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any color samples showing how birch changes over time. I read somewhere that Hevea tends to become lighter—is that true?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hello Leuleu

Attached are two links and the answers to your questions.

  • Birch (Latin: Betula)
  • Family: Birch family (Latin: Betulaceae)
  • Size: Birch trees can grow up to 30 m (98 feet) tall. The trunk can reach a circumference of around 5 m (16 feet).
  • Usable age: 60 - 80 years
  • Source of wood for Kährs birch flooring: Sweden
  • Hardness: about 25% softer than oak. Brinell hardness value: 2.6
  • Color change: moderate. The light creamy color of birch gradually changes to a honey-yellow over time.
  • Additional note: Birch has a high sugar content. A vitamin C–rich tea can be made from birch leaves, and its buds are edible. For survival purposes, birch is considered one of the 14 most important wild plant species.
