Hello everyone,
A few weeks ago, I bought a Billy wooden shelf from IKEA. Unfortunately, it has now become clear that some edges of the wood are splintering, and small pieces are breaking off in places. The affected areas are mainly the shelves and side panels, which are subject to heavier use.
I would like to know what repair options are available to fix the splintering as discreetly and durably as possible. Does anyone have experience with wood filler, glue, or special techniques for BILLY shelves? What is the best way to smooth or protect the wood to prevent further damage?
I look forward to your tips and recommendations!

After filling, simply smooth the areas with very fine sandpaperThanks to everyone for the many helpful tips. I will carry out the repair as described: first filling, then sanding, marking, and possibly painting.
If I have any further questions, I will get back to you.
