Hello everyone, I have the common problem that the shelves of my Billy bookcase bend under the weight of the books. The wood has already started to sag a bit, which doesn’t make it any more stable. I want to increase the load-bearing capacity of the shelves to prevent further sagging. Does anyone have experience with how to reinforce the shelves or if there might be alternatives without having to buy completely new shelves? I’m open to any ideas, whether reinforcements, supports, or other methods. Thanks!
Wow, these tips are great! 🙂 I reinforced my BILLY shelf and now it holds almost twice as much weight without sagging! I installed aluminum U-profiles and also glued small wooden strips in certain areas. Simply brilliant, thanks to everyone here in the thread for sharing their experiences! This is what makes DIY fun!
Thanks to everyone for the detailed advice! I will try the option with aluminum U-profiles and wooden strips and see how it works out. The assessment that half-round rods are less suitable was especially helpful to me. If I have any more questions, I’ll be happy to reach out here again!
