Hello everyone!

I have a question.

Is it possible to apply a paintable plaster directly onto drywall throughout the entire house? I understand that the screw holes and joints need to be repaired and sanded beforehand! Also, I assume a primer must be applied before the paintable plaster, right?

The background is that we are currently planning a house and considering doing some of the work ourselves. I feel confident that I could apply this kind of plaster on my own!

It would be great to get some replies!

Thank you very much

Until a few weeks ago, I also thought that Q1 finish was sufficient for paintable plaster. But then I saw a ceiling that was slightly better than Q1 but not quite a proper Q2, with paintable plaster of 1mm grain. Every air pocket and every uneven edge was clearly visible. In that case, a good Q2 finish would definitely have been necessary.

Thank you very much for your answers!

I have now looked up Q1 and Q2! Do I understand correctly that with Q2 the joints and screw holes are filled and sanded, while the rest of the drywall sheet remains untreated?
If that is the case, I would feel confident doing that myself and could save additional costs!

Yes, that's how it is.

Exactly. As mentioned before, apply filler once, sand it down, and then apply your base coat for the plaster.
