Alexa, only over my dead body—this house will remain largely free of technology

Steffen8023 Oct 2018 22:51Oh man... what qualifies you to claim that you are right and I am wrong?
Do you work at Amazon? Did you help develop Alexa? Do you know the code? Have you logged and analyzed the TCP/IP traffic?
Or did you just get your knowledge from TV? Sorry... here are a few basics:

Do you work at Amazon? HNo, at the police. There are, among other things, network details that are not just insider information (otherwise I wouldn’t share them).

I’m laughing so hard I might fall off my chair. The German police* are not even capable of effectively “controlling” the dark net or limiting drug trafficking on it. Media splashy operations like those against Silk Road don’t change that. If you want facts about Alexa’s behavior (keyword: reverse engineering), you should contact well-known hacking groups.

* No offense, I am a supporter of the police. I even have family members working in law enforcement, including investigative services.

Steffen8024 Oct 2018 10:24PS: Let’s assume the police were able to sniff and analyze Alexa’s traffic and then discovered that Alexa was sending recorded information (WITHOUT activation through a wake word) to its servers... there should be a huge outcry and appropriate action. After all, we have laws. Otherwise, the police would be complicit. Since that doesn’t happen, this alone proves: either the police CANNOT do it OR Amazon does not do it. I am convinced of both.
