Hello Forum,

Today we had a meeting with a home consultant. In our building specification, we planned for underfloor heating combined with an external air-to-water heat pump. Additionally, the consultant included a central ventilation system with heat recovery in the plan. The extra cost for this is about 9000€.

The question is whether this is worthwhile. So far, we have planned for a KfW-55 standard house.

Is this an extra commission for the consultant, or does it make sense in combination? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Somehow, I get the feeling of “belt and braces” here... but that’s just my gut feeling.

Thanks for your assessment!
Best regards, Andi

We have an air-to-water heat pump from Vaillant plus a RecoVair (controlled residential ventilation). The advantage is that all the process heat generated by cooking, showering, electronics, and so on is used to warm the supply air.

Current values:
Outdoor temperature 12.3°C (54.1°F)
Exhaust air temperature 23.3°C (73.9°F)
Supply air temperature 22.3°C (72.1°F)

It becomes interesting when the outdoor temperature is in the single digits.

Is this different from controlled residential ventilation with heat recovery?

No, we are getting the same unit. It is a standard centralized mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery.

So the process heat is not specifically used; rather, the system simply uses the heat from the exhaust air to warm up the supply air.

Thank you, that sounded to me as if it were something special.

If you are considering a Vaillant combination unit for your new build, don’t forget about BAFA and also have a VR700/VR921 internet module installed. This allows you to integrate the air-to-water heat pump and controlled residential ventilation system into your home automation.

@micric3
Is the module intended only for home automation or mobile control, or is it also required for connecting to the photovoltaic system or for communication between the devices? Do you happen to know more about this?
