Hello everyone,

we are currently building a cabin using aerated concrete blocks (36.5cm (14.4 inches)) and are facing the following issue.

We have floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor and would like to install a fall protection system within the window reveal. That means the windows will be set slightly deeper into the wall, and then three stainless steel bars will be fixed inside the reveal. We prefer this visually over installing fall protection on the outside.

However, my bricklayer told me this wouldn’t work as the block would chip off on the outside if I anchor bars into the reveal. He suggests chiseling out a section of the block and filling it with concrete. That would hold better but would reduce the insulation value of the block.

So my question to you is whether anyone has faced the same problem or has any suggestions for a solution? Or are there alternative fastening methods?

I hope I’ve explained myself clearly...

Thanks a lot
Peter

But this is not a question of crumbling away, is it?

Well, what I mean is that with proper reinforcement, it won’t break outward...

Yo, that's how it is

But expect 100 kg (220 lbs) of movement...
