Hello everyone,
first of all, thank you for having me.
Let me introduce myself briefly.
My name is Ronja. I am married, have two lovely daughters, and live in a small village in Saxony-Anhalt.
We have been living in a house for over three years now, but we are renting. Unfortunately, the landlord does not want to sell. We don’t want to rent forever, and finding a house to buy here is really difficult. So building a house seems like a good alternative.
Currently, we pay 1050 euros warm per month (about $1130), not including insurance and other costs. The landlord also passes on additional expenses like property tax to us. So we’re no strangers to extra costs.
Wow, there are so many things to consider and costs involved.
So far, we have only researched online. I have often read that new houses should be energy efficient nowadays.
But eco-friendly is something different, especially when it comes to costs.
Our budget is not unlimited.
My big dream is actually a round log house. But so far, I haven’t found any provider with reasonable prices. Everything is between 2200 and 2600 euros per square meter (about $240 to $280 per square foot). (Help!!!)
I really like eco houses, especially those made with clay.
Is there anyone here who plans to build like this or has already done so?
I would really appreciate any replies.
Best regards,
Ronja

Insurance, etc., of course excluded. The landlord also passes on all other costs like property tax to us.

Hello Ronja,
I’m not sure what you mean by “eco.” Our house is a log home from a well-known manufacturer that is on the higher end of the price range, and with a lot of our own work, we paid about 1500 EUR/m² (approximately 140 USD/ft²). This included everything inside, while outside only the main structure was completed, for example, a dry stone wall to support the slope. We heat with wood pellets, have triple glazing, etc. If you need any names or details, feel free to ask me via private message.

Well, that’s exactly the question I’m asking my husband and myself as well…. The owner is not obligated to make any agreement. These are legal regulations that, of course, he appreciates. His luck was just the change in the property management company. It was only after the new management took over that the costs appeared. They did their job well. Well, tough luck....
And your house looooks amaaazing....! <3
Eco-friendly basically means energy-saving, building with lots of natural materials, water treatment/reuse, and so on... It all costs an incredible amount of money.
What do you mean by “a lot of your own work”....?? My husband is not THE craftsman... Neither of us really knows much about it.
Yes, I’ve read a lot about heating with wood pellets and this triple gasification process... However, I’ve also read that these wood pellets should only be used as a supplement to other heating options....
I once heard about shaft ventilation and shaft heating. It runs on wood stoves and outside air. Have you ever heard of this? Although I wonder if this really works well with a round log house...?
I would of course appreciate any recommendations for various companies.

I believe I’m not allowed to name our manufacturer here, so I’ll send it via private message. We don’t actually use round logs in our case, and why wouldn’t the pellet stove alone be sufficient?
Best regards

Yes, I saw that these are not rounded logs... I was just dreaming again... Thanks for the private message.
No, I don't think it was about "being sufficient." More about the resource itself...? *thinking, thinking*
But I have heard a lot of positive things about it, and many offer it nowadays as well.
