Hello everyone,

Climate change seems to have arrived here in recent years. Right now, we are experiencing tornadoes again in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with fatalities and over 40 injured. When I look at the density of tornadoes in Germany over the past years, decades, and centuries on Wikipedia at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Tornados_in_Europa, it can really make your head spin. The increase in tornadoes is undeniable...

Something for the climate would probably not be entirely wrong! Houses and roofs built in the conventional way may soon no longer be sufficient!

Yes, it’s best to build a bunker from steel and concrete and hope the tornado passes over it...

Storm damage is covered by the building insurance policy.

Congratulations on realizing that. This has been known for many years.

Exactly. For example, no more sealing of land with new single-family houses or even bungalows. Instead, use existing buildings with new housing concepts (including fewer square meters per person) and renovate them energetically so they are at least partially energy self-sufficient.
But such approaches are unpopular, especially in a house-building context 😉

And unfortunately, it’s somewhat oversimplified and not very constructive. Land sealing has absolutely nothing to do with the formation of tornadoes. And “new housing concepts” sounds great – just do it. The world will follow you. Just like all those “New Human” systems.
Otherwise, the past three months have shown what remains of all those pipe dreams when prices keep rising and the “We’re all so wealthy, the government will support it” doesn’t happen. And the idea that existing buildings wouldn’t continue to be used is news to me. Except they somehow never really reach new-build standards, and often they aren’t even worth being improved in that direction. But nobody’s stopping you from buying a 1970s pollutant bungalow and housing two families in 80cm (31 inches)².
