Good morning everyone,

We want to equip our terrace roof (3.5 x 5 m (11.5 x 16.5 ft)) with outdoor curtains. Since these won’t be needed in good weather, they should be able to be fully drawn to the side. The curtains will have grommets, so either a curtain rod (round tube) or cable tension system will be used. From my initial research, I found the problem that there is no curtain rod available that spans at least 250 cm (98 inches) without an additional support. That would be a deal-breaker because the curtain could no longer be fully drawn to the side. Alternatively, I would also be fine with a cable tension system, but I encountered the same issue there. Is it really so uncommon to span a curtain rod or cable over 250 cm (98 inches) without extra support?

Looking forward to your ideas.

Best regards

If you can’t find anything, just use two curtains each 2.5 m (8 feet) wide and slide them to both sides. They won’t meet in the middle when closed, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

I can't say if it's unusual. However, our curtains on the patio roof are also hung on wire cables. They are nearly 5 meters (16 feet) long on the longest side. Since the curtain, when extended, does not put a lot of localized stress on the cable, it only sags slightly in the middle. It should work without any problems.

The problem is that even 250 cm (8 feet) doesn’t work without a third, central support beam (at least according to the manufacturer’s specifications).

So it should work without any problems.

Thanks, then we’ll just give it a try. Do you have a manufacturer or model recommendation?

What is the model clip for? For the cable system? I put it together myself. Plastic-coated steel wire cable, cable tensioners, hooks, and cable clamps. Possibly also threaded rivets and eye bolts if you have aluminum posts. You don’t need anything more than that.
The curtains are from easy2shade.

We had a cable system spanning a little over 3 m (10 feet) without an additional central support. However, I can't tell you the manufacturer, as it was a simple, cheap system bought on eBay.
