Hello everyone,

We are new to this forum.
We recently purchased a plot of land and now want to build a house. We plan to visit several providers and request quotes. We have appointments with Schwörerhaus, Okal Haus, Weberhaus, and Bien-Zenker. Does anyone have experience with these companies and can recommend any of them?

We look forward to an active exchange.

Best regards

A company philosophy (especially for smaller businesses) can also be about having no big marketing, but instead focusing on communication and quality as a philosophy! Glossy brochures don’t really say anything about that.
But you initially said

as "favor companies that actually have a philosophy instead of bragging loudly in a specifically designated section on their website letting their advertising agency write about it"—well, that takes quite some effort. After all, there are fifteen federal states without the Bavarian school-leaving exam ;-) and a PISA society has fewer humanists than Zlatkos.

And wall assemblies are not all the same. The quality differences are huge! But that also requires the willingness to engage with it.

Here I want to disagree with you: within one wall philosophy category, the differences between wall assemblies are no greater than between the recipes for Prinzenrolle vs. Doppelkeks or Nutella vs. Nutoka. Especially every industrial baker knows that, for the "organic" customers, they have to offer a spelt bread roll (simply because "spelt" is a positively image-enhancing buzzword for the target group). In the same way, mineral wool insulation is popular. It’s tempting to think of the psychological effect of association and to attribute the popularity to its raw sugar brown color, which naturally seems more trustworthy than the bright yellow of glass wool. Just yesterday I read here again about ground thinning residues, which are nowadays filled into hollow brick cavities. And as a fragrant crust, the clinker from the Rügenwalder mill comes on top, from the lovely baker— or am I mixing several commercials up now? — and like a CNC yeast-dosing machine, the U-value calculator tells you how many centimeters (inches) of material thickness of which building material you have to throw into the dough so it bakes perfectly after the desired baking time.
Actual differences do exist, but these are not within a category; rather, they tend to be between, for example, timber "stud" (actually "frame panel") and solid wood construction.

Of course, there are differences. I have looked into this myself. However, if you focus too early on the wall construction (setting aside personal deal-breakers like polystyrene), it can distract from what really matters. The differences within a price category are not that big, especially with prefabricated houses, where it usually comes down to about 25cm (10 inches) of mineral wool as standard.

In my opinion, this focuses too much on basic physics. I believe the "chemistry" between the future homeowner and the construction contractor is more important, and I know many happy people who have never really examined the wall structure of their house. My grandmother lived happily in her last apartment for thirty-six years without ever asking whether the building was made of pumice or porous bricks. She could tell the difference between Jacobs and Darboven coffee, but she never made a science out of stones.

I have noticed that five-year-old ETICS houses in the northern regions, where there is rarely any sunlight, are starting to develop algae growth.

Yep! Our neighborhood is getting algae 😳
But oh well, if everyone joins in 😀

I can only partially understand the issue with algae.

According to a painter, it also depends on the additives in the paint. Algaecides and fungicides need to be included.

Here in the neighborhood, there are 6 houses.
Only 1 house has problems.

This is the Massa house; it has severe streaks and stains on the west side. Meanwhile, the Okal house, which is somehow from the same manufacturer, has no issues.

After 10 years, however, even the solid constructions have problems if there is a lot of overgrowth and trees around.
