Honest answer? – You probably won’t move into your own house until your next life. There is NO single recommended manufacturer and NO one without any problems. The more often you hear “no problem at all” in advance, the more cautious you should be. Forget Excel spreadsheets to compare and evaluate providers. That will never work – trust your gut feeling. For technical matters like evaluating the construction and performance specifications, and possibly later construction supervision, hire professionals. It costs extra but can save you a lot of money and trouble. You will struggle as a layperson with the general terms and conditions; the most important points here are the payment terms and the right to access the site during the construction phase. As a rule: only pay for construction progress that has been properly completed. And do not give up your right to access the site during construction—both you and anyone you appoint must always have the right of entry. It is quite common for this to be prohibited. As you can see, the devil is in the details. But don’t panic, building is actually quite simple—you just mustn’t make it harder than it has to be :-)

We met with Okal Haus. The first and second planning meetings were very pleasant, but we really didn’t warm up to their promoted ventilation heating system, Proxon, in the literal sense. Price-wise, it wasn’t a bargain, but it wasn’t completely overpriced either.

You or they asked about experience with.... and then nationwide companies appeared. I think that anyone building with Okal House in the Hunsrück region or with Okal House in the Börde area will have similar experiences, the same materials, and the same procedures.

and focus on the company philosophy and wall construction!

I think the topic of wall construction is rather confusing. Everyone claims to have the best wall, except for the companies that don’t say anything because they just add polystyrene insulation on the outside. Company philosophy is mostly just marketing anyway.

It is more important to look at how individual companies position themselves in the market and to consider whether you want to build within the same price range.
