HeiniohnePlanGood evening!
1. We would really appreciate your feedback on whether it makes sense to fully close the stairwell opening up to the ceiling in a small staircase or not.
What looks better, nicer, less awkward, and above all, cooler?
2. The open stairwell opening measures 68cm x 47cm (27 inches x 18.5 inches).
3. When closed, the interior space of the stairwell, including the floor area, is 45cm x 36cm (18 inches x 14 inches). It could be used to install a built-in cabinet.
4. Do you have photos of closed stairwell openings? Perhaps even with cabinets or shelves?

Thank you for your assessment @ypg!
We are a bit worried about the open staircase opening because of our crazy cliffhanger kids.

The laundry basket was placed at the bottom of the stairwell. This was quite practical. We also greatly benefited from the transport convenience that @ypg mentioned.

68cm x 47cm (27 inches x 19 inches)Hello,
I've never heard the term "stairwell opening" used exactly like that, but I can guess what you mean.
Personally, I would leave it open.
How many floors do you have?
If the kids are still very young, you can temporarily install safety nets (similar to prison nets).
Once they’re older, you can remove them.
I mean the nets, not the kids...
