Hello everyone, we are about to start our house construction project near Heide in Dithmarschen and are considering possibly building a solid wood house. The question is which providers would be suitable for this. Maybe someone here in the forum has experience with local companies?

Of course, I have come across, for example, Fjorborg, but I believe they work with timber frame construction rather than solid wood, which is quite different in terms of quality. Besides that, from various people’s experiences, I have heard that local providers are often more reliable and offer better deals.

What is your opinion on this, and can you recommend some companies with whom you have had positive experiences in and around Heide?

The "typical" Swedish house is indeed quite similar to the local timber frame prefabricated house and not a log cabin. Talis, on the other hand, probably caters more to customers who "know" Sweden from soap operas on ZDF.

Well, that’s quite a stretch... ‍♀️

However, I don’t know where Talis imports from—if they import at all.

There always has to be a target customer group. The best-selling model is the so-called townhouse! It just sounds better...

But a villa on a tiny lot in a densely packed new development? That doesn’t quite add up either...

Not really, even if you stick columns in front of the entrance?

I’m not sure how to describe it exactly. Or were solid houses built differently 30 years ago?
The domain of timber frame panel construction is mainly single-family houses, where usually only your own kids are stomping around upstairs. That’s why impact sound insulation is not considered as crucial there. With airborne sound, there is less difference compared to solid masonry houses.

The best is the so-called town villa!!! Just sounds better...
The term “poorhouse” was already taken, and I also call it “substitute villa” (or with columns or other little decorative chains: -willah).

@bauking01: We also built a Swedish-style house using timber frame construction. I couldn’t find any evidence that anything was glued together, and there’s no sagging either because it’s double-sheathed (or “covered” as you said)... And I was on the construction site daily – I would have noticed if any adhesive was used.
At the beginning, a shipment of beams arrived, and two carpenters built the shell structure within eight weeks – so definitely not just “quickly glued together”...

I think you should first get familiar with the subject and carefully find out how, what exactly, and why.

But if you want something “solid,” you will probably have to go for a solid construction. Wood – in any building method – is always more sound-transmitting than a solid structure.

Sorry, I was wrong in my opinion and now realize I unfairly criticized timber frame construction. Unfortunately, I am a complete beginner when it comes to timber construction, and I think that shows. However, I am slowly starting to educate myself on the topic.

For now, I plan to visit model homes of Talishaus with my father-in-law, then Naturbau Meldorf, and for comparison, the Viebrockhaus show homes.

I haven’t found any general contractors for solid wood houses who build here in Schleswig-Holstein yet. Most are based in Bavaria and only willing to build in the north with significant additional costs.

So it definitely should be wood.
I’m still missing the "why" – preferences should have reasons (and participants in the discussion should know them).

That can also be a subjective decision. You can appreciate music even without being able to play an instrument.
