Hello, I happened to notice that a new office building in our neighborhood is getting an exterior plaster with integrated solar technology.

Does anyone know about this? Is it suitable for individual residential use, or are the costs and benefits not justified?

Unfortunately, I pass the construction site every morning and evening when it is not staffed.

Thank you,
Hilaria

Hello,

Hmm ... €800.00 in additional costs would - in my opinion - probably only cover the final coat of paint? Otherwise, it would indeed be cheaper than a plaster with a lotus effect and definitely more affordable than I expected.

No, the costs cannot be easily generalized because every house has different dimensions, possibly offsets, etc.; regional differences as well as mixed cost calculations must also be taken into account.

You get the best sense of proportionality if you ask your supplier about the surcharge for a complete solar plaster.

Kind regards

The €800 probably refers to a small area in square meters, and 2-3 people applying the plaster will cost the same or even more.

@jamguy, for me, it’s less about the energy savings and more about the fact that it is supposed to help prevent mold and fungal growth, since I have a child with severe respiratory issues and I’m looking for affordable options to eliminate various risk factors.

On the company’s website, it specifically states:

“This complete formula promises the following properties …
  • an average of 10 percent energy savings
  • up to 95 percent reduced risk of algae
  • water-repellent
  • highly vapor-permeable (s[SUB]d[/SUB] value 0.07)
  • weather-resistant and low-stress
  • low tendency to get dirty
  • microporous and non-film-forming

The additional cost for the solar plaster in single-family home construction is approximately 800 euros compared to standard plaster.”

(probably I’ll get a warning again for copying something here, though)

No, why would that be? You quoted from the website but didn’t include a link ... everything is fine.

Regarding the costs, you should definitely discuss this with your supplier; it is possible that they might offer you a different price. If that happens, the next step would be to contact the supplier of the solar plaster, request a quote, and then—if you like their offer—negotiate again with your supplier about removing the plaster.

Good luck!

You write very actively here; unfortunately, your profile provides little information. I would be interested in your professional background to better understand and evaluate your answers.

Kind regards

Oh, you know, I once trained as a plasterer and later attended a master craftsman school. I had many acquaintances who were building or renovating houses, so I gained quite a bit of experience along the way. My main intention is simply to offer some advice! Nowadays, I’m a "Rocksack," because there was some progress there too. If you like the music, you can listen to some tracks on Myspace/jamguy for free and without registration!
