Hello everyone,

We are planning to install a ground source heat pump.

Does anyone have experience with the maintenance of these systems?

Is there a regular inspection by the chimney sweep or anyone else to check the system?

Or put another way, are there any wear parts that need to be checked and possibly replaced periodically?

For example, the pump, any filters, etc.?

And what other operating costs can be expected?

Best regards,

Aunt Google doesn’t say anything good about the company.
Exactly, that’s what I meant 😉

There don’t seem to be many threads on this topic. Is it because ground source heat pumps, especially heating coils, are not yet very popular, or are they just unreliable? In other words, is it advisable to avoid ground source heat pumps?

In a forum like this, you would expect to come across such discussions.

We definitely will not be hiring the company mentioned above. I already had a bad feeling, and the conversation at the end of the show didn’t help.

I imagine such a system is quite complex. But I don’t have to handle everything myself—that’s what the heating engineer is for, right?

I would appreciate it if there were more experience reports here.

There is a lot of information available about ground-source heat pumps!

.... so does that mean ground-source heat pumps are not recommended???
If the conditions are right, a heat pump is a very good alternative to conventional heating systems.

You would think so, but unfortunately, that is often not the case! There is usually a lack of proper sizing. Significant technical shortcomings can often be identified.
If you want to be sure, the calculation and sizing should be assigned to an independent building services engineer (MEP planner).

Tomorrow we have an appointment with two heating system installers to get advice on ground collectors. We want to operate these collectors using a photovoltaic system. Any surplus electricity that we do not feed into the grid will be sold to a power supplier.

Which heat pump manufacturers would you recommend?

The manufacturer is initially secondary; first, the actual demand (capacity, energy) for heating and hot water should be determined. Then the heat source can be sized, and afterwards the manufacturer or device can be selected. When performance and price are comparable, the control system often becomes the deciding factor.

Best regards.

P.S. How sensible is it to put the cart before the horse?
