Hi everyone!

My wife isn’t really fond of those typical textured wallpapers on the ceiling.

What other options are there?
Would it be feasible to do these as a DIY project?
What additional costs should we expect?

Thanks in advance!

We had painting fleece wallpaper applied and then painted over with the same color as the wall. For us, this is the best solution.

Search for ceiling spraying, then you will find something. For me, it is the best solution because it looks good and is cost-effective.

In some construction specifications, precast concrete slabs are often simply filled, sanded, and then painted. At least in my opinion, I have not seen a good example of this; you can usually notice imperfections, especially under grazing light. Therefore, I recommend at least applying a fleece before painting, or plastering the ceiling.

We painted bare concrete white. On 45 sq m (484 sq ft), there are two spots where something is visible. Otherwise, everything is perfectly smooth.

Yes, you can definitely do this yourself. A concrete grinder costs around 100 euros, then you just need to buy some filler, apply it twice with sanding in between. After that, prime the ceiling and then paint it white.

If you work carefully, it will look quite good. Instead of painting white, you can also use textured paint or roller plaster to add some texture, which helps hide any minor imperfections. That’s how I did it in the basement.

For the ground floor, I had a professional painter spray the ceiling, which I think is the best solution.

The spraying method I found involves applying a mixture containing polystyrene beads onto the ceiling. Is that what you mean?
