How large should our hot water storage tank be?
- District heating
- House 180 m2 (1,937 sq ft) with underfloor heating
- New build according to energy saving regulations
- 4 people
- 2 standard showers
- and 1 standard-sized bathtub in the house
Our installer suggests 190 liters (50 gallons), while our district heating provider considers 300 liters (79 gallons) more appropriate.

The house connection capacity for district heating is 14 kW.
Is 190 liters (50 gallons) sufficient then? What do you think makes sense here?If the storage tank is completely emptied, it will be fully reheated within 30 minutes. In practice, you won’t completely use all of it unless you run a continuous rain shower session.
