Hello dear forum,
I have to use the shower at my workplace. A friend recently told me that it could be bad for my home’s plumbing system if it is never used, so I wanted to ask if this is true and how I could prevent potential issues. I also read something online about Legionella bacteria but couldn’t find clear guidance on how to handle it properly. For example, is it enough to run the water briefly every 2 to 4 weeks? Since I don’t really know much about this topic, I wanted to ask if you have any advice on the proper approach?
Thank you very much.
Best regards

Bau-Schmidt1 Oct 2017 13:40Better search for "legionella" and how it develops. That will answer several troll questions.
Given the frequent presence of third bathrooms I’ve seen in house designs, I can easily imagine a shower going unused. Pipes tend to clog more when there is low water flow. The idea of lukewarm water is actually quite ironic: microorganisms usually thrive best at “comfortable” temperatures, whereas properly hot water is more effective. And the notion of saving a private shower by combining a workplace and a sports club really sounds laughable. You could ask the same question about a gas stove if you have a microwave both at work and at the club *LOL*
In gas pipes, stone lice multiply—these are even cultivated for producing aerated concrete blocks ;-)

michael.w1 Oct 2017 15:27I really don’t understand what your problem is. After work, I’m dirty and can shower there. It would be silly to get into a dirty car just to shower at home. After sports, I’m sweaty. It would also be silly to get into the car just to shower at home. Right? I don’t see how this has anything to do with trolling or anything like that. But okay. And yes, the lukewarm water comment might have been a bit thoughtless. Hot water is better. And ice-cold? That must be replaced too, right? And no one could answer how often either. Maybe for you it’s a funny or troll-like question, but no one has been able to answer it yet. Since mentioning a third shower, the question doesn’t actually seem that strange overall, does it? It’s really a shame that you get criticized more than you get any help...

very unfortunate that you get more criticized than helped..... It’s Sunday, and since your other question is also a bit awkwardly phrased, the suspicion of trolling is not entirely unfounded. What did you expect: to run cold water for four and a half minutes when the moon is waning, then an hour later the same amount of warm water, and vice versa when the moon is waxing???

Bau-Schmidt1 Oct 2017 15:49How should we help? Impart common sense? What could go wrong with a shower if it is not used? Maybe the stagnant water slowly becomes hard.
