Hello! We are planning to build a KFW 55 house with 2 full stories. The plot is 970 sqm (10,440 sq ft). We are currently deciding between a geothermal heat pump and a pellet heating system. We are not entirely sure yet. What do you think? In the long run, do the costs balance out? In your opinion, which is the better option?

For that, an endless amount of information about the house, requirements, etc. is missing.

There are two completely different heating systems, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Pellet systems require space and create more mess compared to heat pumps, etc.

There are various types of ground source heat pumps:
- Deep borehole
- Surface collector
- Trench collector
As well as other variations

Whether a ground source collector can be installed at your location depends on various factors.

You would need to delve deeper into the topic and specify your questions so that it’s easier to provide helpful advice.

Personally, I prefer ground source heat pumps over pellet heating systems, but I can’t say whether that applies to your individual building project.

What exactly do you still need to know? The house will have a footprint of 90 sqm (970 sq ft). The soil investigation report is still pending. A ground source heat pump with a horizontal collector is planned. I have heard that over the years the ground can "undulate" or shift. Is that true? For pellets, there would be an underground tank in the yard.

There will be no basement. Three people will be moving in.

There is no development plan. As mentioned, the plot is 970 sqm (10,440 sq ft) and has a slight slope, which will be leveled either by filling or excavation, but we haven’t decided yet.
There will be no fireplace.
A garage will be built next to the house.
We are still unsure whether to use brick or aerated concrete, but it will be a solid construction.
The garden will mainly be planted with grass, maybe two trees, and a small flower bed for the child.
