Hello,

I would like to reduce the humming noise from our ground source heat pump in the utility room. This humming can be heard outside the utility room.

1) Should I better insulate the heat pump itself or the walls of the utility room?

2) Depending on the approach, which materials are suitable for sound insulation? I was thinking of Basotect foam?

Good luck, F

What is the heat pump installed on?

The small 4 feet of the ground source heat pump rest directly on the floor tiles.

In our case, they rest on concrete slabs the size of the heat pump, with rubber pads placed between the slabs.

This is where you should start; the screed is also decoupled from the slabs.

What type of heat pump is it?

Take a look at the recommended base detail.
